Cavs seeking second opinion for Kevin Love's 'concerning' knee injury
Feb 16 2017
The Cavs lead the N-B-A Eastern Conference at 37-and-16. Meanwhile, Minnesota dropped to 21-35.
Even if Williams proves effective, the Cavaliers figure to have a tough time competing without LeBron James on the court in Love's absence.
Already without shooting guard J.R. Smith as he continues his rehabilitation from surgery to fix his broken right thumb, the Cavaliers learned Tuesday that power forward Kevin Love would need six weeks to recover from surgery to remove "a loose body" in his left knee.
Using a projected rotation with 10-day pickup Derrick Williams and veteran Richard Jefferson filling most of Love's minutes, the multi-year, predictive version of ESPN's real plus-minus (RPM) suggests the Cavaliers will play at the level of a 47-win team without him in the lineup. The Cavs know who they are and they have LeBron James to carry them through the early stages of the postseason. Tristan Thompson also contributed to the offense by adding 14 points and 11 rebounds. His basket from just inside the 3-point line at the quarter buzzer following a James turnover tied the game at 93 entering the fourth.
Doubling Up: The Cavs had three players with double-doubles.
In Los Angeles, DeMarcus Cousins scored 40 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out eight assists, leading the Sacramento Kings to a 97-96 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center arena.
10-of-27 and 2-of-10 - Kyrie Irving may have had 25 points and seven assists, but he was quite cold for the majority of the game in Minnesota. In their seven games this month (6-1 overall), Cleveland is shooting at a.522 clip from the field (.432 3FG%) and has posted a shooting percentage of.500 or better five times.
Three Ball: The Cavs hit 33 percent from behind the arc hitting 13-of-39.
Cavaliers: F Iman Shumpert played 25 minutes after missing the previous three games with a sprained left ankle.
Channing Frye is likely to replace Love in the starting lineup for the Cavaliers, who could opt to bench Love through the break for next Sunday's NBA All-Star Game. The Cavaliers rank 4th in the league in scoring at home, averaging 114.1 points at The Q this season.
