Adele won the Global Success Award and sent a video acceptance speech, while Bruno Mars and Katy Perry also performed.
The girl group are up for three awards at this year's ceremony.
Brit nominees Ed Sheeran, Little Mix, Ellie Goulding, Craig David, Michael Kiwanuka and James Arthur were among those to grace the red carpet ahead of the event.
Indie-pop group The 1975, who are up for album of the year, girl band Little Mix, grime artist Skepta and soul singer Emeli Sande complete the line-up.
Little Mix opened the ceremony and walked away with British Single for Shout Out to My Ex.
"I lost my dad past year, but I also became a dad", said Jones, 45, "and I was spending a lot of time after getting over the shock of trying to work out what would I want my son to know about his granddad". Little Mix's Brit Awards arrival did not go hitch-free, though, with Jade Thirlwall's white dress being caught by an untimely gust to reveal her black knickers. So let's make sure that we do that.
Also nominated: Anne-Marie, Blossoms, Skepta, Stormzy.

She said: "The first time I won a Brit I was really sick, it was the first and only time at the beginning of it all, and I had the flu". I couldn't sit at the table, I couldn't deal with everything, the haze - I was like that Spongebob meme where he's circling.
Now it might be the song that plays as you watch through your fingers while your aunties dance around at a family wedding, but in 1983, "Come On Eileen" was named as Best British Single, over Irene Cara's "Fame" and Survivor's "Eye Of The Tiger".
