Health officials: Flu cases on the rise in Arizona

"Getting vaccinated now is perfectly reasonable if you want to do everything possible". "A 50 percent reduction in doctors' visits may translate to a similar or greater reduction in more severe outcomes like hospitalizations and complications of flu".

It appears as though the 2016-17 flu season has not yet peaked.

The flu shot is an inactivated influenza vaccine.

In the United States, the first canine flu vaccine was green-lighted in 2009, or around five years after the first canine-specific strain was found in Florida racing greyhounds and thousands of other dogs of other breeds in different states, Newsweek reported.

"Influenza viruses are known for promiscuous gene sharing", Crawford says, which "could create a third, new virus with the capacity to infect both dogs and people or cause more serious disease".

"A lot of the bad years are H3 years". This season's Northern Hemisphere vaccines are on target, yet only offer 48% protection against medically attended influenza, according to CDC officials in a February 16 Community Outreach and Communication Activity conference call and webinar.

Parrish said "a handful of students" who got the flu had gotten a shot previously. That's not bad, since the strain that's making most people sick is one of the worst. It is much better compared to the 2014-15 season, when the most common virus strain drifted from the virus in the vaccine, rendering the vaccination just 19 percent effective. Influenza and pneumonia were responsible for 7.9 percent of all deaths in the week ending January 21, and 20 children have died so far this year from the virus.

People who are severely allergic to chicken eggs, have had a severe reaction to an influenza vaccination in the past, developed Guillain-Barre' Syndrome (GBS) within six weeks of getting the vaccine, children less than six months of age, or people who have a moderate or severe illness with a fever until symptoms lessen. "Do it on your lunch break today", Schaffner says.

"We are seeing a lot of flu deaths in people over 65".

The Department of Health Services reported Friday that there were 752 confirmed cases reported across the state last week, marking a significant increase from the 346 cases documented the previous week.

It's not surprising to learn this time of year that the flu is widespread.

If it seems like you've been seeing an uptick in patients who are ill with influenza despite being vaccinated, it's not your imagination. The shelter also contacted about 80% of the people who'd recently adopted pets there.
