Tamil Nadu trust vote: DMK, allies stage hunger strike across state against
Feb 25 2017
"It is a matter of shame, according to us, for Tamil Nadu", the opposition leader added.
However, Stalin said DMK would not try to make a backdoor entry to rule the state.
Stating that the next hearing would be on February 27, the DMK working president requested the Speaker that immediate action be taken to provide him the footage. The political crisis in the state started when former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam had revolted against Sasikala, who was set to become chief minister before she was convicted.
Displaying his torn shirt and alleging that he was roughed up by party members, Stalin told media, "We repeatedly appealed to the speaker for a secret ballot, but he refused to address our plea". He has also sought time to meet with Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Sitaram Yechury. Palaniswami won with 122 votes in favour and 11 against.
The DMK's contention that secret ballot method should have been adopted during confidence motion on EPS may not cut much ice, but the procedural issue of procedure of first adjourning the house and then again bringing the same motion, might.
Stalin was responding to Dhanapal's charge on Saturday after the confidence vote faced by Chief Minister E K Palanisamy, that he was perhaps targeted by the DMK during the ruckus for hailing from a particular community.
Replying to a question from reporters here on the floor test and DMK moving the High Court, he alleged that both AIADMK and DMK were guilty of having committed mistakes during the trust vote on February 18.
Meanwhile, the Congress has also extended its support to DMK for the statewide hunger strike.
The DMK contested the legality of the motion and the eviction of its members from the Assembly on Saturday ahead of the trust vote.
The DMK has represented its case to the Governor Vidyasagar Rao and has also approached the High Court to declare the Vote of Confidence "null and void".
