Manipur election results

The BJP has come to power after 15 years of Congress rule in Manipur that was led by Okram Ibobi Singh. They were on their way to attend N. Biren Singh's oath taking ceremony in Imphal today.

The other ministers are TH Biswajit Singh of BJP, L Jayantakumar Singh, L Haokip and N Kayisii of National People's Party, L Dikho of Naga People's Front and Karam Shyam of LJP.

The Congress' state unit President Luizinho Faleiro, former Chief Ministers Digambar Kamat and Pratapsingh Rane, were potential candidates for the post, but each camp and their proxies rejected each other, wasting precious time. NPF is likely to demand the release of UNC leaders unconditionally and roll back the controversial bills passed by the Congress government, and so too the seven new districts. At an event held outside the state BJP headquarters later, Biren spoke about the economic blockade and the need to lift it.

He made his debut in electoral politics in 2002 when he got elected to the Legislative Assembly from Heingang constituency on a Democratic Revolutionary Peoples Party ticket. The police had at that time reportedly said the statement published in the newspaper that Biren edited was "seditious and anti-national".

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to form a government in Manipur after Nongthombam Biren Singh, who was elected as the BJP's legislature party leader in the state on Monday, will be sworn in as the Chief Minister of the state on Wednesday, March 15. Biren, 56, is the 11th chief minister of Manipur.

- The Congress, which won the most seats, 28, could not gather the support of three more legislators to make the 31-seat majority mark.

Biren Singh has promised that he'll remove the economic blockade in the next 24 hours after forming the government in Manipur. "It will be a government of one Manipur". It won most seats by a single party, but failed to gainer support from smaller parties.
