Ludacris adds a music-related element that MTV is also aiming for in its original series.
Fear Factor premieres Tuesday, May 30 at 10/9c on MTV. The show will take aim at "youth tension points with challenges including 'Roach-ella, ' 'Trap Queen, ' and personal cell phone rescues at heights of over one hundred feet". Yep, that's real. Also, these new challenges will be based on urban legends, scary movies and, of course, online videos. Fear Factor originally aired on NBC where it ran for six seasons.
Fear Factor is due to make its third comeback to TV this year after being out of production since 2012.
Ludacris said that the new series "will be even more insane and ludicrous than what you remember". MTV is reviving the classic stunt/dare game show and ordered 12 new episodes of the series from Endemol Shine North America, Variety reports. It was known for putting its contestants through several extreme physical and mental challenges as they attempted to outperform one another for a $50,000 grand prize. Fear Factor is the first project in the deal.
NBC's Joe Rogan-hosted display of gross-out television wasn't so much a competition as it was a weekly set of tasks seemingly created to humiliate contestants and disgust viewers. "We're not looking to be mean-spirited", McCarthy told THR.
The popular US game show, an adaptation of the Netherlands' Now or Neverland, ran from 2001 to 2006, and briefly returned to TV screens for one year until it was cancelled again in 2012.
