Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry lead Warriors to NBA title

Kevin Durant, asked if he had a message for Rihanna as he left Oracle Arena late Monday night after his Golden State Warriors were crowned National Basketball Association champions, held aloft his Finals MVP trophy and stared at a video camera.

For James, already a three-times champion, the loss puts him in rare company as only the fourth player to come up short in five NBA Finals.

Durant - who swapped the Oklahoma City Thunder for the Warriors in search of an elusive title - scored 39 points on 14 of 20 shooting with seven rebounds and five assists.

The Warriors also won titles in 1947 and 1956, when the team was based in Philadelphia, and took the crown in 1975 and 2015 after moving to the San Francisco Bay area, but had never clinched a title at home.

Fans can begin queuing up for the rally starting as early as 5 Lakeshore and 12th Street.

"Like I said, teams and franchises are going to be trying to figure out ways that they can put personnel together, the right group of guys together to be able to hopefully compete against this team".

Kerr missed 11 games during the Warriors' 2017 playoff run because of complications stemming from back surgery in 2015. I could be wrong, but I got the sense that Cleveland players respect and like Durant much more than they do Curry.

"Man, that guy is - I think that some people would say he's on the toe of - like he's on the line of greatness".

LeBron James is in the latter stages of his career after 14 National Basketball Association seasons but is so dominant that he can turn any team into an instant contender. To be back here, bring ol' Larry back home, I'm just excited to do something special. David West and Patrick McCaw combined for only 10 points, but it can be argued that there were no bigger baskets in the game than the ones they made. Then he moved across the podium and hugged Stephen Curry before accepting his shiny MVP trophy, holding out his arms and hoisting it for everyone to see. Green shot 34.5 percent for the series and never got around to having the kind of statement game he had in Game 7 of last year's Finals. "And he said, 'How many minutes you got?'"

On what it felt like to lose to the Warriors in the Finals in five games: "I left everything on the floor every game, all five games". He's spent after scoring a game-high 41 points in Monday's Game 5. However, he has played in a remarkable seven straight championships.

If you are the best player, you are charged with making everyone else on the team better and James does not do that or needs better teammates. "It was fantastic to just see that all year, and right now just to be here with these guys, it's unbelievable".

But none of this works if Iguodala isn't sharp, ready, and willing to go close to 40 minutes, and just close it up for the Warriors, one more time, before the champagne starts to flow.

But James did not want to weigh into the discussion about whether the necessary pieces needed to build a true challenger to the Warriors are out there. They need LeBron to maintain his all-time excellent peak a decade and a half into his career; they need Kyrie to be consistently brilliant in one-on-one situations; and they probably need someone better than Kevin Love - a four-time All-Star - as their third option.
