McCain Says His Confusing Questions Resulted From Tiredness

Republican talking points for the Comey hearing revealed—it's all about Obama and Hillary's email

John McCain gave a confusing and rambling line of questioning. "I don't quite understand how you could be done with that but not done with the whole investigation to affect the outcome of our election". The hearing was called to investigate allegations that President Trump tried to squash Comey's investigation into his administration's ties with Russian Federation.

Comey said the Federal Bureau of Investigation completed its investigative work into Clinton and the two were "no where near the same place", at least not when he was heading the agency.

He explained later that he was concerned Lynch was aligning herself with similar comments made by Hillary Clinton's campaign to describe the probe.

When Comey questioned why they would call it a "matter" instead of what it really is, Lynch basically told him that is what she wants. McCain tried to ask why he reached a conclusion in the Clinton case, but not in the investigation into Trump's campaign.

You mentioned before some news stories and news accounts, without having to go into the specific times. have there been news accounts about the Russian Federation investigation, about 'collusion, ' about this whole event, or accusations, that as you read the story, you were stunned about how wrong they got the facts? You're going to have to help me out here.

US Senator John Cornyn, who questioned Comey on Thursday, noted that he called in February 2016 for Lynch to step aside in the Clinton investigation.

The 80-year-old Arizona Republican joked that maybe he should not have stayed up late watching the Arizona Diamondbacks playing baseball.

McCain, in a rambling line of questioning that he sought to clarify first in a televised interview and then in his released statement, was trying to point out that Comey was willing to form an opinion about Clinton's case but not on the current investigation. "I wanted Mr Comey to apply the same approach to the key question surrounding his interactions with President Trump", McCain added.

"When I was sacked on May the 9th, there was still an open and active investigation to understand the Russian efforts and whether any Americans worked with them", Comey said until McCain interrupted, again returning to Comey's conclusion in the Clinton case. "With respect to Secretary Clinton, we investigated a criminal investigation in connection with her use of a personal email server".

LAURA COATES: The open investigation if he wasn't aware of one at the time he was sacked, certainly that raises the interest level of saying well, maybe that was part of the now investigation as to why Trump was so adamant about having him no longer in office.
