Woman who stormed stage during 'Julius Caesar' is arrested

Report Protester interrupts performance of 'Julius Caesar' that references Donald Trump

"This is unacceptable. You can not promote this type of violence against Donald Trump", said Loomer.

The production paused briefly for the protest. You don't "take back" theater overnight, and you certainly don't do it by rudely interrupting a performance then calling the audience murderers and Nazis. In the middle of the show, a woman walks onto the Central Park stage shouting, "Stop the normalization of political violence against the right". Goebbels was a close adviser to Adolf Hitler during the latter's leadership of Nazi Germany. She was arrested for disorderly conduct and criminal trespass. The performance is part of the annual Shakespeare in the Park festival in New York City.

Signs are seen outside the Delacorte Theater in Central Park June 12, 2017 where the production of William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar by Shakespeare in the Park, an annual summer program by The Public Theater is being held in NY.

The production, which features a Donald Trump-esque figure in its title role, has been a target of right-wing outrage since before its official opening on June 12. Delta and Bank of America have pulled their funding, and Donald Trump Jr. But the theater has defended its staging of the play, saying that it "in no way advocates violence towards anyone".

"Two protesters disrupted our show tonight; we stopped the show for less than a minute and our stage manager handled it beautifully", Oskar Eustis, the artistic director of the Public and the director of the production, said in a statement.

The nonprofit Public Theater noted that like its critics, it also has the right of free speech under the first amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

At that point, prominent pro-Trump activist Jack Posobiec chimed in from his seat that the audience was equivalent to Joseph Goebbels, Hitler's propaganda minister, adding that they were inciting terrorism and that the blood of Steve Scalise "is on your hands". Scalise, the Republican whip in the House of Representatives, is in a critical condition after a gunman shot several lawmakers and others at a congressional baseball practice in Virginia on Wednesday. "Thanks to everyone who is supporting me & condemning political violence". Sanders said he was "sickened by this despicable act" after learning of Hodgkinson's affiliation with his campaign.

Loomer was released from custody shortly after the arrest and set up a webpage to raise funds for her legal defense against the charges.

The Public Theater production is free to enter and will run until Sunday.
