Who will be the new Indian cricket coach?

Indian coach appointment deferred

Speaking at a press conference, "We have chose to hold on to the announcement". We need to talk to a few other people, especially the captain Virat Kohli.

Ganguly also confirmed that Ravi Shastri, Virender Sehwag, Richard Pybus, Tom Moody and Lalchand Rajput were all interviewed for the job.

It is being said that Shastri and Sehwag are in the lead among the six contenders that have been shortlisted for the Indian team's coaching job.

Given his cordial equation with captain Virat Kohli, Shastri, who had a successful tenure as team director with India reaching the 2015 World Cup semi-final, is the favourite.

The CAC met on Monday to interview the candidates for the high-profile post.

It appears, CAC might have selected another candidate and want Kohli to be on board before they make their choice public or they are not convinced about Shastri, but will select him if Kohli insists.

The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) on Monday (July 10) deferred the announcement of the new Indian coach by a "few days".

Regarding the interviews, Ganguly said: "To be honest what we heard today was no different from what we heard previous year".

The rumors said that Virat Kohli was not happy with the coaching style of Kumble.

As of now, the team will proceed without a head coach and with the existing set of support staff for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. "He and everyone of us need to be on the same page because Indian cricket is more important", Ganguly said. "There is no hurry to appoint the coach, as it is a long-term prospect, at least till the end of the 2019 World Cup", Ganguly said.

Klusener has also applied for the post with some experience of coaching provincial sides in domestic leagues in South Africa.

"We can't only look at Sri Lanka though it's a long tour", said Ganguly.

"We want to make sure that everybody is in synchronization and Indian cricket moves forward".

Ganguly informed that the whole process of selection is concluded and just the announcement is awaited. We want to speak to Virat Kohli once he's back from America. While Rajput is coaching Afghanistan who will play a 50-over match against Maryleborne Cricket Club at Lords on Tuesday.
