Will Smith to play the Genie in Aladdin remake

Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall’s film wish won’t be granted … but she’ll be back with a bang

The three cast members were announced at the D23 Expo on Saturday.

Based on the Arab-style folktale "Aladdin and the Magic Lamp" from One Thousand and One Nights, the original follows a street urchin, who finds a magic lamp containing a genie.

After months of speculation, Disney confirmed Will Smith will take the role famously voiced by Robin Williams in the 1992 cartoon version of Aladdin. We have no doubt he'll be brilliant though!

But what has been on everyone's mind is who would play Aladdin himself and, oh boy, have Disney found a victor.

Though the actors for the main characters have been announced, Disney reportedly is still looking for actors to fill other roles, including the infamous villain Jafar, his sidekick parrot Iago and Princess Jasmine's father Sultan.

And wow he is he buff! Just two days ago, a report that Vikas Gupta's brother Siddharth Gupta bagged the role also did the rounds.

"You are complaining that Naomi Scott doesn't have a brown-coloured skin to play as Princess Jasmine in".

Some were less critical and instead celebrated the fact the 24-year-old had been chosen for the role.

British actress Naomi Scott has been cast as Jasmine.

Aladdin is the lastest live-action "retelling" of an animated Disney classic, following in the footsteps of hits like Cinderella, Maleficent, The Jungle Book, and most recently, Beauty and the Beast.

After more than 2000 auditions, film makers were relived to finally introduce Massoud as the new Aladdin.
