A 17-year-old passenger jumped out of this Copa Airlines plane after it had landed at San Francisco International Airport from Panama City

San Francisco airport officials said a 17-year-old boy was detained by crew members Tuesday after he opened an emergency gate of a Copa Airlines flight waiting to taxi to its arrival gate and jumped onto the tarmac at San Francisco International Airport.

An airport construction crew working nearby confronted the boy and held him until police arrived and arrested him. S. citizen, was traveling alone on the Copa Airlines Flight 208 from Panama City headed to San Fransisco, reports AP.

Witnesses said the teen seemed fidgety and anxious throughout the seven-hour flight.

A teen in San Francisco on Tuesday made a decision to take one of the worst unaddressed problems of air travel into his own hands: You can never get off the dang plane fast enough.

"The door's open. Someone jumped off, '" said Matt Crowder of Atherton, California. And then he just starts running the other way.

"It was as if he was like flying out, like it was really fast", Sophia Gibson, a passenger who lives in San Jose, told local NBC affiliate KNTV.

He says they were yelling to tell the flight attendants that the door was open and someone had jumped off.

Airport officials say no runways were affected and there was no operational impact at the airport. Relay the message back. Copa Airlines lands at SFO and a passenger could not wait until they got to the gate.

"We are cooperating fully with the relevant authorities to support the ongoing investigation", the airline said.

The flight crew closed the exit door, and the plane continued to its gate without any more trouble.
