Thirty-two years after a devastating quake killed thousands in Mexico City, the horrific memories of 1985 were revived after a magnitude-7.1 tremblor struck the country on the same day on Tuesday. The epicenter was near Raboso, a town in the state of Puebla, but could be felt 76 miles away in Mexico City.

At least 21 children were killed at an elementary school that collapsed in the Mexican capital. He said another 30 children and eight adults were missing.

"The priority at this moment is to keep rescuing people who are still trapped and and to give medical attention to the injured people", Mexican President Enrique Peña said in a video message.

Tuesday's natural disaster came more than one week after a magnitude-8.1 quake struck off the southern coast of the country, killing at least 90, according to the governor of the hard-hit state of Oaxaca.

Almost 100 of those deaths occurred in Mexico City, where dozens of buildings collapsed.

Pea Nieto said he was closely coordinating with the governors of Mexico City, Puebla and Morelos, the cities that suffered the most damage, reports Efe.

"It was terrible", a student at another school in Mexico City told WSJ about the moment her school felt the natural disaster. Mancera said that 50 to 60 people were rescued alive by citizens and emergency workers in the capital.

Mexico City's worldwide airport suspended operations and was checking facilities for any damage. Mexico City, the country's capital, was the worst hit.

In the U.S., President Donald Trump who's had a very contentious relationship with Mexico, saying on Twitter "God bless the people of Mexico City". Just hours before the latest quake, many people took part in drills and commemorative events.
