Aaron Rodgers: Davante Adams wanted ball on game-winning TD
Oct 10 2017
"It was important plays at the most important times by those guys".
Adams was on a stretcher 10 days a go, and now has two touchdowns against the Cowboys. He caught seven passes for 66 yards, including two in the final drive, just over a week after getting knocked out of Green Bay's win over Chicago.
Dak Prescott had given the Cowboys the lead with an 11-yard run with 1:13 remaining, capping a 17-play drive that lasted nearly nine minutes.
With the stakes lower than the last time these two teams squared off, this loss is still costly, as it drops Dallas to 2-3 on the 2017 season and two games behind the division-leading Philadelphia Eagles.
Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers hits TE Lance Kendricks for 24 yards during the Week 5 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. "I thought Dallas was aggressive with the two minutes of pressure, and the scramble play was big, and obviously the touchdown throw was outstanding".
The Rams took a 10-0 lead in the second quarter, but had five turnovers in the game and were unsuccessful on four trips to the redzone as the Seahawks then reeled off 16 unanswered points for the win.
Down 21-12 entering the second half, the Pack buckled down and thundered back to take the lead after a field goal from Crosby and a TD throw from Rodgers to WR Jordy Nelson. But you can only keep the man down for so long as he exceeded the 100-yard barrier on his 27th carry, and finished with 116. The drive was capped off with a fade to Adams in the left side of the end zone to win the game.
"I was going to call a different play, but (Adams) said to call it again", Rodgers said. "And he gave me that look and I was like, 'let's do it again" and he threw a flawless ball and I didn't really have to do that much". While the home team jumped out to the advantage for the first three quarters, it was #Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay with a spirited fourth-quarter comeback. Nor should it get overshadowed by the breakout performance of rookie running back Aaron Jones.
"It's a tough one", Prescott said.
The killer play ended up being the second down call in the redzone where Prescott threw a pass intended for Dez Bryant in the end zone that was broken up.
This was back to back weeks where the Cowboys looked to have the game secured, but failed to do enough to come away with the victory in the end. Irving returned to practice Wednesday after a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.
Last season, Green Bay did another number on its friends in Dallas, beating the Cowboys on The Kick. But they had little impact on the game or Rodgers.
The jeers started in the first quarter of the Dolphins' home debut, and soon the crowd was chanting for backup quarterback Matt Moore.
Last week against the Bears, Lane Taylor played his first game of his career at left tackle.
Rodgers had one timeout at his disposal and said he was thinking touchdown, not field goal, the entire time.
Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday the wideout felt "great" as he recovered from the helmet-to-helmet hit, which led to his hospitalization.
Now the Packers have scored 35 points in two straight games. He also made a key catch on the sideline that set up a Green Bay score late in the first half. They have a bye next week before traveling to play the San Francisco 49ers on October 22 at 3:05 pm.
