Zachary Levi cast in title role in DC's Shazam movie
Oct 29 2017
Levi portrayed Fandral of the Warriors Three in Thor: The Dark World and will reprise the role in November 3's Thor: Ragnarok. DC ended up licensing Captain Marvel back from Fawcett in the 1970s, but by then Marvel had its own Captain Marvel character, forcing DC to use the alternate name Shazam.
Levi is also known for his roles in Tangled and Chuck.
Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on Shazam! and the future of DC Films as we learn it.
Other actors in the mix for the role in the last few months have included John Cena and more recently Jake McDorman, the star of TV's Limitless.
The name is derived from the names of the ancient world gods and historical figures - Solomon (S), Hercules (H), Atlas (A), Zeus (Z), Achilles (A) and Mercury (M). Currently, there's no word on who will play Batson, but Levi is a solid choice to play the purposefully corny Shazam.
Captain Marvel was ranked as the 55th greatest comic book character of all time by Wizard magazine.
The man who will step into the shoes of Shazam!
Although he's arguably less well-known to mainstream audiences than someone like Batman, Wonder Woman, or Superman, Shazam is one of DC's oldest and most iconic heroes. According to Nerdist, DCEU has six films on the horizon with set release dates and plans for another fifteen on top of that, which includes Joss Whedon's much anticipated "Batgirl" film. And given recent statements by Warner Bros. and DC executives about having some movies less connected, will Shazam! be a stand-alone DC film or connected to other movies?
