NTPC Explosion: Boiler blast claims 9 lives, injures 100

NTPC confirmed that some of its senior officials, including three assistant general managers, were severely injured and have been rushed to Lucknow for treatment.

NTPC said the accident in the boiler of 500 Megawatt MW under trial unit of NTPC- Unchahar occurred on Wednesday afternoon. Relief and rescue operations were underway and the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals.

Sub Divisional Magistrate of Unchahar has told our Lucknow correspondent that several injured are in serious condition and they are being shifted to Allahabad Medical college, KGMC and other hospitals in Lucknow for treatment.

Gandhi represents the Raebareli parliamentary constituency in the Lok Sabha.

Local administration has pressed every available ambulance into rescue and relief operations.

"Ten people were dead and 100 injured in a blast in steam boiler at NTPC Raebareli", a statement issued by India's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said.

The explosion triggered panic among workers who ran helter-skelter.

Yogi has announced Rs 2 lakh compensation for the family members of the labourers who lost their lives in the boiler blast and Rs 50 thousand for labourers who are injured grievously and Rs 25 thousand for other injured workers.

"Due to the unfortunate NTPC accident, I will visit Rae Bareli tomorrow morning".

The Congress vice-president also expressed his condolences over the deaths and tweeted, "I am deeply saddened with the incident at the Rae Bareli's NTPC plant".

The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath is not in the capital.
