Former Clemson DC Morris Gets Arkansas Job

Chad Morris Reportedly to Be Named Arkansas Head Coach After 3 Years at SMU

Things could have gotten a little bit awkward between Gus Malzahn and whomever Arkansas hired as its next head coach. The former Wisconsin head coach was signed through the 2020 season and will be paid an $11.8 million buyout.

The University of Arkansas officially announced the hire of Chad Morris as the 33rd head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks at approximately 1:18 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017.

Morris had a 14-22 record in three seasons rebuilding the program at SMU. That matchup will also be the Hogs' 2018 SEC opener. He won three state titles overall and played in six state championship games. "I think that Texas high school football coaches do it the right way". It was the only win over a ranked opponent in Morris' tenure at SMU.

The Mustangs are guaranteed a winning record for the first time since 2012 and for the fifth time since the program rebooted in 1989. The Mustangs upset No. 11 Houston in the 2016 season, and clinched bowl eligibility this year with a thrilling, 38-34 win over Tulsa. He did not play college football. He and his wife, Paula, have two children, a daughter, Mackenzie, and son, Chandler. The Razorbacks promoted Hatfield's offensive coordinator, Jack Crowe, who had not been a head coach in more than a decade. The Mustangs were 2-10 in his first season and went 7-5 to earn a berth in the Miami Beach Bowl on December 20 against Louisiana Tech in 2017. He was sacked a day later.
