Google's Datally app helps keep your data use under control

"Google Play supports a variety of monetization strategies to benefit developers and users, including paid distribution, in-app products, subscriptions, and ad-based models", the company said.
A "Next Billion Users" unit formed by Google chief executive Sundar Pichai set to work on Datally about two years ago, after traveling the world and finding that the cost of mobile data services was a vexation, especially in places where budgets are tight and smartphones are the main way people go online. "It's like a speedometer for your data", Google said. Keep in mind Google Datally is now available only for Android users.
WANT to make the most out of your limited data plan?
So as consumers, we often look for ways to save those extra few megabytes of our mobile data by either reducing our usage or simply switching it off altogether.
Google has a new app called Datally for devices with at least Android 5.0. "That's why we built Datally, an app that helps you to control, save more and do more with your data", Caesar Sengupta, Vice-President of Next Billion Users at Google. First, it allows users to see data usage on an hourly, daily, weekly or monthly basis and get personalised recommendations for how they can save more.
Along with showing real-time smartphone data use, Datally reveals which apps are involved and lets people stop them as they wish.
To keep you aware of how much an app is using at any given time, Datally will display a "bubble" that displays how much that app is using and makes it easy for you to cut it off should it start to use too much.
The Android spyware can steal sensitive data from social media apps like Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Viber, Skype, LinkedIn, and Telegram.
The app also includes Data Saver, a feature that blocks apps from using data in the background. Datally will tell you if you're near public Wi-Fi and help you connect.
Once you're connected to a network, don't forget to rate it to help others in the Datally community find great Wi-Fi. If you are using Android, you can also limit your data consumption by navigating to Settings Mobile data usage and set a data limit.
