Jar contains year's worth of coins for Salvation Army
Dec 22 2017
This week the Salvation Army also handed out 441 turkey food baskets....800 hams...and 750 toys to needy families in the Grand Forks area. That's Christmas presents for almost 1,200 kids! If you have any new unwrapped toys that could be donated, they would much appreciate them.
Donations also include gift cards to a local grocery store which allows community guests to purchase food for a Christmas dinner, groceries for several days or other options that might be better suited for their family, according to the Kelowna RCMP.
Donations to the Salvation Army are doubled from now until the end of the year under a matching program funded by businesses and others in the community, most of whom remain anonymous. Families who need groceries or toys have all been helped.
The Salvation Army outposts in both Wausau and Stevens Point need your help to reach their 2017 Red Kettle Campaign fundraising goals.
The homeless, addicted, families in need are all given hope by the Salvation Army. In many cases, a person or group adopted a child and prepared gift packages for children. "They'll tell us the value and then (we) sell it for whatever they tell us it is".
"People who would normally be donating are now waiting on employment insurance or living on half of what they were before", she said.
When the deadline passed on Monday, the Salvation Army's annual Angel Tree program has 17 angels left to be adopted, and Director Michelle Miles is pleading for the community to step up and give those children some needed support.
The Salvation Army is proud to be a part of the city of Bend and service all of Deschutes county.
