Microsoft highlights the benefits of Windows 10 on ARM

HP, Asus announce first Windows 10 ARM PCs

The slight caveat here is that Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 845 at the conference so it's already out-of-date in a way. The main USP of the device is the promise of all-day computing. Microsoft unveiled the new PCs, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset using ARM architecture at an event in Hawaii today. As CNBC notes, Microsoft's partnership with Qualcomm stands out, as the tech giant typically gets its chips from Intel and AMD.

It is compatible with Windows Ink styluses, Windows Hello authentication as well as Cortana. ARM computers aren't noticeably thinner or lighter than others, and though they lack any sort of fans, many newer Intel computers are fanless, as well.

The Asus NovaGo is the world's first Gigabit LTE laptop, thanks to the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 platform packed inside. The machine will come with Windows 10 S pre-installed and will only run applications from Microsoft's Windows Store. "ASUS and HP have worked hand in hand with us to deliver on pushing the boundaries of what a PC can do, and we continue to work closely with Lenovo as they build their own Always Connected PC", Myerson writes. Always On is also onboard with a Snapdragon X16 LTE modem that supports 4G LTE-Advanced signals. The Envy X2 is very similar to numerous Surface Pro types of computers that already exist, while the NovaGo feels just like any other budget to midrange laptop.

The Windows on ARM PCs are part of a broader Always Connected PC initiative, but those cellular machines don't need to have an ARM processor.

Similar to the HP offering, the ASUS NovaGo will be available in configurations ranging up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of Storage. The NovaGo can be similarly equipped with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, but its fixed display is a 13.3-inch 1920 x 1080 pixel panel.

It was looking like 2017 might end without any sign of these new Windows devices with Snapdragon 835 inside, despite Qualcomm earlier saying they would be available in the second half of the year. We haven't been told for sure that this element will come to the United Kingdom models, so stay tuned for an update.
