Rock star John Mayer admitted to hospital for emergency appendectomy

The sudden surgery caused Dead and Company, the band Mayer is touring with, to postpone their Tuesday concert in New Orleans. Mayer is now in emergency surgery.

Dead & Company is now next scheduled to perform on Thursday at the Amway Center in Orlando, FL.

Mayer can, however, give a doctor's note to any frustrated would-be concert goers-he underwent an emergency appendectomy to remove his appendix on Tuesday morning.

Mayer, who is also a member of the popular Grateful Dead offshoot Dead and Company, needed an emergency appendectomy, according to a news release from Scoop Marketing.

A publicist for the 40-yeaar-old said in a statement Wednesday that Mayer is recovering and "is in good spirits".

The New Orleans show slated for Tuesday evening was the third-to-last show of the string of gigs, initially set to conclude December 8 in Sunrise, Florida.

It's not clear when the tour will resume.
