AAA Mid-Atlantic: Back in the high life again at gas pump
Jan 09 2018
After getting hit with higher prices associated with severe hurricanes, MA drivers are not getting the benefit of the usual January dip in gas prices, AAA Northeast said Monday.
AAA Michigan says gas prices statewide have declined by about 6 cents per gallon in the past week. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up - every time.
AAA's January 8 survey of prices in MA finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.48 per gallon. On Gasbuddy, a gas pricing app, the average price for a gallon of gas ranges from $2.23 to $2.29 with gas stations along Sugarloaf Parkway in Lawrenceville and Duluth having the lowest prices at $2.19 a gallon.
Prices at the pump remain elevated due to strong oil prices. A year ago, the state average was $2.53. West Texas Intermediate last week settled above $62 a barrel for the first time since December 2013.
"Retail prices could drop 5 to 15 cents in the next month and a half, while supply outpaces demand", said Mark Jenkins, a AAA spokesman.
Sunday national gas price average is $2.49, which unchanged in the last week, up a penny in the last month and 12 cents higher than this time a year ago.
Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy, agrees.
