Arsene Wenger reveals why he dropped Alexis Sanchez against Chelsea

Alexis Sanchez

Even with Sanchez being a key player for Arsenal, Wenger's back is up against a wall as Sanchez's contract runs out this summer.

Speculation ramped up further when he left Sanchez out of his starting XI to take on Chelsea on Wednesday, despite the Gunners being ravaged by injuries and missing several first team players. Obviously we will see what happens in this transfer period.

According to the Mirror's John Cross, Sanchez has been included in the squad for the match after training on Tuesday, with manager Arsene Wenger sending the message he will not consider any bids for the Chilean prior to kick-off.

Sanchez played no part in Sunday's 4-2 FA Cup defeat at Nottingham Forest, which leaves the EFL Cup as Arsenal's remaining realistic prospect of domestic silverware this season.

"When he comes he will add something to the team".

The North-West outfit are believed to be keen to tie De Bruyne down to a new deal, but at the moment there has been no movement.

"We don't care about that", De Bruyne.

"We are in a good period already, the whole season".

Looks like Kevin De Bruyne dreamt of playing for Liverpool as a youngster...

The 26-year-old said: "We are still in negotiations".

Now that it's the winter window, though, and Arsenal are getting half the fee they were going to originally get for Sanchez, it remains to be seen whether they'll be able to meet Monaco's £90 million pound evaluation of the french starlet.

De Bruyne was speaking after City were given a stern test by Championship side Bristol City in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

If his motivation is trophies, then he's in a fantastic position to go now, but if it's money, what's five months if you can get £30m in your bank account at the end of it.
