Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze On Switch

Sonny Ross

Nintendo has confirmed today that Wii U titles Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Hyrule Warriors are getting revived on Switch. During the January 11th Nintendo Direct, Nintendo showcased a new trailer featuring a brand new character and mode.

While the game will largely remain the same, it will feature a new mode starring Funky Kong. The writers here at Nintendo Enthusiast are huge fans of Tropical Freeze, so this is a welcome announcement.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is available now on Wii U, and is coming to Nintendo Switch on May 4. We'll have more information for you when it's available, but in the meantime, keep your fingers crossed for more ports of classic Donkey Kong and Zelda games.

New for this release is Funky Kong, who can double jump, pull off infinite rolls and infinite underwater corkscrews. and can use his surfboard to bounce across spikes and hover in the air. We do know that the entire game will be playable in local co-op, with one Joy-Con being used by each player. Much of that level design goes into making you meet an unfortunate and untimely end - but it's slightly uneven.
