Freezing rain possible in north Georgia Monday morning
Jan 08 2018
An approaching low pressure system will spread light rain across the area, and as temperatures stay below freezing, it will cause freezing rain to develop until temperatures warm up later in the day. The ice will result in very slippery conditions on sidewalks, roads and bridges, especially during the evening commute on Monday.
"While amounts are expected to be light, any amount of freezing rain on any untreated area roads could quickly turn them icy", the weather service said. A brief period of light snow or sleet may be possible at the onset especially in southern IL, but it should quickly become all rain.
A winter weather advisory in southeast Missouri from noon til midnight, and in southern IL north of Carbondale from 6pm today until 6am Monday could see up to a tenth of an inch of ice or freezing rain. "Expect 1-3" of snow to accumulate and the potential of a light glaze of ice.
Forecasters say freezing rain expected to move into Georgia on Monday could freeze on roadways as early as mid-morning in metro Atlanta, though the timing was still uncertain.
