Houston police: Intoxicated man found with weapons in downtown hotel room

HPD: Man arrested, found with guns, ammo in downtown hotel room

Police arrested a man and seized several guns from his hotel room and vehicle in Houston just hours before the hotel's scheduled New Year's Eve celebration.

Lt. Gordon Macintosh from the Houston Police Department said when the officers arrived they located an AR-15, a shotgun, a handgun and lots of ammunition in the man's hotel room, reported Click 2 Houston.

They also found other weapons in his pickup truck which has been towed away.

Police in North Carolina discovered thousands of doses of heroin, a gun, and human teeth on a man detained during a suspected shoplifting investigation on Christmas Eve.

A hotel spokesperson told the website the party will go ahead as planned but with extra security.

Police say hotel security officers confronted the unruly man early Sunday at the bar at Houston's Hyatt Regency Hotel and called for assistance when he refused to be subdued.

The suspect was arrested for unlawfully carrying a weapon and trespassing but was too drunk for police to immediately to interview him. His name hasn't been released.

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo tweeted earlier Sunday that the situation at the hotel had been "contained" and authorities weren't aware of any specific threats to the city. A police spokesman said investigators couldn't speculate about the man's intent with the guns.
