While Lubbock's Sears location is not on the chopping block, three Texas locations are.
In 2006, Sears Holdings operated more than 3,000 locations in the US and Canada, according to CNN.
Liquidation sales will begin as soon as January 12 at the Sears and Kmart stores.
Shoppers at both locations expressed concerns about the stores closing. Macy's said it planned to close 11 stores in early 2018, including seven that were not part of a batch of 100 closures it announced in 2016.
"I'm not really surprised (by the closing) because you never see people in there", said Tessa Hay of Springfield. The majority of the jobs are part-time positions, Sears said.
"It's definitely the online shopping", she said.
"The older stores in this mall and this area have just gone out one by one", she said.
The company has closed hundreds of stores in recent years amid ongoing challenges for brick-and-mortar retailers; Thursday's news follows an announcement two months ago that 63 stores would close.
Sears had already been planning to downsize in Orland Park, where it's been an anchor store since the mall opened in 1976.
The store is located at N. Nevada Avenue and Fillmore Street.
Sears Holdings said in the statement that it would continue assessing the productivity of Kmart and Sears stores and will "right size our store footprint in number and size". It's unclear how long of a lease Sears has at the mall.
The Hoffman Estates, Ill. -based department store chain has struggled with a 45 percent plummet in sales and a spike in debt above $4 billion, Business Insiderreported.
