The report comes after weeks of speculation that Cole could be headed to the New York Yankees. Cole did top 200 innings for the second time in 2017 and also saw his strikeout numbers tick back up close to one per inning. The Astros would appear set to open the season with a rotation of Dallas Keuchel, Justin Verlander, Cole, Lance McCullers and Charlie Morton if the trade is completed. Now a deal is in place for Cole who compiled a 4.26 ERA over 203 innings last season.

Cole turned heads in 2015 when he made the All-Star Game and posted sparkling numbers.

Cole also contributed to Pittsburgh's 2013 postseason run, making two October starts as a rookie. He has a 3.50 ERA in 127 career starts. There haven't been any indications as to the return the Pirates are looking for from Houston.

After the Houston Astros' historic World Series victory, the team's trophy is now on its official tour of the Lone Star State. It's less clear how badly the Pirates need outfield prospects given the presence of Austin Meadows, Starling Marte and Gregory Polanco.
