Vivo Just Unveiled World's First Phone With in-display Fingerprint Sensor

Vivo in-display fingerprint sensor

Vivo's first smartphone with in-display fingerprint scanner is said to launch in the first half of this year. But, as the Synaptics have already crossed the limitations faced during in-screen fingerprint scanner implementation, the company is more likely to go with Synaptic's Ultrasonic advanced sensors. This may be true as this phone was earlier spotted online with an under-display fingerprint sensor.

Synaptics has first revealed this technology in December 2017 and the news had sparked speculation as to which smartphones would sport this particular technology.

Based on Vivo's press statement, the fingerprint scanner is placed between the OLED and glass panel covering the display. The new model may come with thinner bezels as the fingerprint sensor will move under the display.

It's a similar story with Samsung's latest flagship smartphones, although it has shifted the fingerprint sensor to the rear of its devices rather than dispense with it completely.

Possible reports point out that Vivo finally showcases the next-gen. biometric scanning technology implemented in Vivo smartphone and has been developed by Synaptics.

It's early days for in-display fingerprint sensors, but we remain cautiously optimistic about their potential to replace conventional fingerprint scanners.

The recent fingerprint scanning technology aims to offer users a better and a more convenient way in terms of fingerprint authentication experiences.

"With our efforts in extensive consumer research and long-term R&D investment, Vivo is well positioned to pioneer the development of fingerprint scanning technology", said Alex Feng, Senior Vice President, Vivo. Vivo says that you will, of course, be able to use the in-display fingerprint scanner for payments as well, as it's just as secure as a regular fingerprint scanner.

"Today's showcase of a ready-to-produce in-display fingerprint scanning smartphone featuring an optical fingerprint sensor is a big leap forward in bringing consumers this long-awaited, futuristic mobile experience".
