Here's the first teaser trailer for Venom

Crucially, the first shot is of the Golden Gate Bridge, which signals that the film picks up after Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) has moved from NY to San Francisco. Sony also intends for the film to share the world of Spider-Man: Homecoming, which is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe because of a deal between Sony and Marvel Studios. The team at Heat Vision takes a closer look.

Look, I'm not saying that Sony should spoil the entire movie in the trailer. It's been over a decade since we last saw the character on the big screen in 2007's "Spider-Man 3", which concluded director Sam Raimi's trilogy. What remains unknown is how Brock is introduced to the symbiote and where things go from there.

There are a couple of possible reasons why the full-fledged Venom isn't included in this first trailer, the most obvious being that maybe the visual effects simply aren't ready. It's easy to forget that Brock was a failed Daily Globe reporter, and that the reason he looks like the Rock is because he took up bodybuilding to quell his depression.

From what can be gathered from the limited amount of footage, Hardy's troubled Eddie Brock character is transformed into Venom after an alien spaceship crashes to Earth.

Couch: Consider this an early Venom present. If this is the case, then when we eventually do get that reveal, it'll be more impactful than if we saw him in the initial trailer.

It's hard to believe a Venom standalone film is really happening, but the fact can no longer be denied.

Still, it's Tom Hardy and Venom. But what kind of superhero is he going to be? Plus, an agonized Hardy expression.

Kilkenny: In contrast, I was intrigued because of the shots of Hardy's back. Going by this trailer, the film seems to be a mix of both genres.

We know Tom Hardy can be the flawless comic-book movie bad guy: We've seen it before with his fantastic performance as Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises".

As you can see from the poster, an IMAX release has also been confirmed for the film. Worst-case scenario, we will be getting an interesting Tom Hardy performance. You can bet that those who grew up reading about Venom and Spider-Man's rivalry in the 1990s have high expectations for this movie, so here's hoping its good.

PASADENA, CA - JANUARY 12: 2017 Actor Tom Hardy arrives at the Winter TCA Tour FX Starwalk at Langham Hotel on January 12, 2017 in Pasadena, California.

Just yesterday, we were treated to the first actual trailer for Deadpool 2 and, today, it was Venom's turn to follow suit.

"Venom" fans are pretty crestfallen right now. The character, played by Topher Grace, was one of the main antagonists in Peter Parker's life. I would just like to actually see Venom in a trailer for Venom. For crying out loud it's the name of the flippin' movie!

Couch: Batman Begins came out seven years after Batman & Robin. And I think that's partly due to the bland visuals.
