Josh McDaniels Set to Be Named the Colts Next Head Coach
Feb 07 2018
The 41-year-old McDaniels goes from guiding Tom Brady and the high-octane Patriots to a team that struggled mightily without quarterback Andrew Luck, who missed all of last season while recovering from right shoulder surgery in January 2017.
It certainly seems as if Josh McDaniels will be the next coach of the Colts, but the Patriots are making the anticipation as agonizing as possible.
He is once again graduating from offensive coordinator to a head coach for the Indianapolis Colts.
This would be his first head coaching job.
His hire comes one day after the Lions hired Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia, leaving New England searching for two important new hires.
ProFootballTalk.com's Mike Florio reported Sunday evening that there has been "chatter" that McDaniels may decide to not leave New England for the Colts. Lewis is the ideal example of a player who found a way to thrive after seemingly everyone had given up on them; players like that are a specialty of both Ballard (who brought in 2017 Colts sack leaders Jabaal Sheard and John Simon) and McDaniels (who turned college lacrosse star Chris Hogan into an National Football League wideout).
"I'm just going to talk about this game", he said. But now that the season is over, the Colts can make it official. So one can't assume the Colts will be a quick-throwing team under McDaniels just because that was his style in New England.
The Patriots lost in the Super Bowl, but it wasn't the offense's fault.
Patricia, meanwhile, whom the Giants considered for their head coaching vacancy, was ready to take the next step in his career, but not before showing honest gratitude for Belichick's mentorship. "So if he is, they're getting a great coach".
