Leicester City's Claude Puel gives Riyad Mahrez update

"I wanted to come and try something new".

"Manchester City didn't get the player they wanted".

One former Premier League star has explained why Riyad Mahrez actually deserves respect for taking a stand against Leicester City.

Leicester is yet to confirm whether Riyad has permission for his absence or not. Some players were understood to have been unhappy with Mahrez's decision to miss three successive training sessions and Wednesday's Premier League defeat by Everton.

He has scored nine goals in 27 appearances this season, leading the Foxes into the top-half of the table. And yet it was at this point that the same moral quandary befell them that had previously sen them pull out of the Sanchez deal.

Initial reaction to his appointment was mixed, with some wondering if the club were already preparing for life in the Championship by turning to man who knows the division well.

The former England global went on the say that he believed Mahrez would definitely have started for City had the move gone through, especially considering their current injuries.

Four Premier League sides are among the current favourites to sign Mahrez in the summer. However, it's plainly obvious that neither City nor Guardiola actually needed him.

As noted in the report, City were keen to sign Mahrez late in the January window, although a transfer failed to materialise. A gilded stopgap, if you will.

SportBild believe if Leicester offered €30m then it could see Gladbach's sporting director Max Eberl consider a sale, he'd be "weak" when faced with such an amount.

But Swansea do not want to sell anyone and South Korean midfielder Ki - who is out of contract in the summer - plans to see out the season at the Liberty Stadium. It looks like a great place to live.

It's crossing the line between obscene and outright vulgar.

In the 30th minute, the hosts thought they had doubled their lead after Iheanacho played a quick one-two with a marauding Ndidi, whom after scoring had his goal ruled out for offside by referee Anthony Taylor.
