Man, 30, And Officer Killed In Shooting

Richardson Police Officer Man Shot Killed at Apartment Complex

Chief Spivey said so many Richardson officers were physically and emotionally involved in the fatal shooting that the investigation was turned over to the Plano Police Department.

Richardson Police spokesman Kevin Perlich said police had received reports of a disturbance with shots fired just after 7 p.m.

The suspect, who was firing randomly, had barricaded himself inside the apartment, according to CNN affiliate KTVT, prompting a four-hour standoff with police. Witnesses said McCall shouted "I'm sorry" as he was taken into custody hours later.

A Texas police department and community are mourning the death of an officer killed in the line of duty Wednesday night.

A police officer has been fatally shot, another person is wounded and the suspect remains barricaded inside an apartment in suburban Dallas. Among those who came to pay their respects was a man from Cops4CopsTX.org, in a vehicle decorated with stars and stripes and the slogan, "When a hero dies, an angel rises". Sherrard was transported to Medical City Hospital in Plano and later died from his injuries. The vehicle arrest was dismissed before charges were filed, according to police records.

30-year-old Rene Gamez was also killed during the shooting.

The Richardson Police Department tweeted Wednesday that there was an active shooter scene at North Star Road and Renner Road.

"The hearts and soul of Texas mourn with you. Your loss is a loss to all law enforcement and everyone in our great state", the governor said.
