'The Bachelor': Arie & Lauren Reveal They've Considered Eloping After Dramatic Engagement

The season 22 finale of The Bachelor aired Monday March 5th

The 36-year-old pro racing driver and real estate agent proposed marriage to Lauren during Tuesday night's live After the Final Rose special, just weeks after calling off his engagement to the victor of his The Bachelor season, Becca Kufrin.

Because, after Luyendyk proposed to and then dumped Prior Lake publicist Becca Kufrin on national television on Monday, March 6, a gentleman from Minnesota took action. The After the Final Rose special will continue on Tuesday night.

And while Arie has been raked over the coals for blindsiding Becca with cameras, Lauren is standing by her man's side. "I don't want to say everything happens for a reason, but I truly think it does". "I think that for the people who haven't gone through this, it's like you go through this intense breakup and you go through a proposal and there's nothing normal about that", he continued.

The finale episode of the super-popular reality show found Luyendyk Jr. proposing for the second time this season, following his short-lived engagement to Sufrin. On Tuesday, "The Bachelor" averaged a 2.2 rating in adults 18-49 and 7.7 million viewers, compared to the 2.2 and 7.9 million it drew on Monday night, a season high.

"I really wanted everyone to know that this was on me", Arie said on Good Morning America on Wednesday.

"It's very painful to see one of the worst experiences of my life played out on TV", Harshman said to Life and Style, adding that some of her family and friends didn't know about the miscarriage.

"I totally respect his decision to follow his heart", says Lauren, 26, in an interview for PEOPLE's cover story. "I'm happy that she's going to be able to find love through the show". I know all of the love I have to give. "He's said the same thing and I don't know there's much more to say on the topic". In tweets Jones has since deleted, she said he claims to be the "hopeless romantic" who "forever cheats and does despicable wrongs to women", the website said. "But at this point, it's like, anything I ask him, will I get a true answer?" she added.
