"Late yesterday, we agreed to a one-year deal with Robert Griffin", Newsome said. "It makes us a better football team". He led the Redskins back to the playoffs and was named the NFL's Rookie of the Year.

After being drafted by the Washington Redskins, Griffin played three seasons in D.C., making the Pro Bowl and All-Rookie team in 2012 before injuries derailed his career. He struggled to regain his form and was eventually benched for good in favor of Kirk Cousins in 2015 and cut in 2016.

He spent 2016 with the Browns, only playing in five games because injuries struck again.

Quarterback Robert Griffin III was selected by the Washington Redskins at second overall in the 2012 draft expecting to be the long-term solution. Seeing as the Ravens former backup to starting quarterback Joe Flacco in Ryan Mallett has hit free agency, there was a spot to fill in case Flacco were to go down in 2017.

Griffin rejected offers from the Ravens and the Arizona Cardinals in the previous offseason because he did not feel the they were good fits, though he appears to have changed his mind about Baltimore.

Head Coach John Harbaugh told a press conference: 'I'm very excited about it, the coaches are excited about it.

Over the course of his four seasons in the NFL, Griffin has appeared in 42 games, 40 of which he started. I know RGIII - he'll speak to this - I felt like he really wanted to be here.

"Griffin is seemingly happy for the chance as well, tweeting, "#PlayLikeARaven".
