'It's about time': The 2018 Rock Hall inductions

The Latest: Soulful Nina Simone inducted into Rock Hall

The band's performance included flawless rendition of hits such as "My Best Friend's Girl", "You Might Think", "Moving in Stereo" and "Just What I Needed".

Overall, the Dire Straits Rock Hall Induction experience will be remembered for not having a proper presenter, as well as a performance.

It was a big night for New Jersey-bred rockers, Bon Jovi. R&B superstar Mary J. Blige welcomed Simone into the Rock Hall, and R&B singer Andra Day performed in her honor.

The Cars frontman Ric Ocasek joked he was supposed to be the good looking guy in the band, not Orr. TV and radio personality Howard Stern inducted Bon Jovi. Whether this was at the behest of the Rock Hall or the lack of willingness by the band, though, only one thing for now remains certain: Be, bop, a, lua, baby, this was a major bummer.

"When the band first started, Ben was supposed to be the lead singer".

NOTE: A performance of Nina Simone's music and The Moody Blues' induction and concert performance took place late in the night after press deadline. The New Jersey rock band joined the Cars, Dire Straits the Moody Blues and others as the class of 2018. This year was a little different, though, as the Hall also officially recognized singles for the first time, creating a new (and seemingly limitless) category for songs that shaped the course of rock music, from a couple of the earliest to some psych-rock staples of the "60s".

The fan favorite by far was Bon Jovi.

Later in the event, Ann Wilson of Heart and Jerry Cantrell honored Chris Cornell with a commanding rendition Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun". The set included Bon Jovi classics such as "You Give Love a Bad Name", "It's My Life", "When We Were Us" and "Livin' on a Prayer".

Easton told us: "Ben leaves a big hole in the band, let's face it; he had the greatest voice and when Ric [Ocasek] would be singing lead in a song, Ben really helped us sound better, besides his fantastic lead vocals". Alabama Shakes frontwoman Brittany Howard and guitarist Felicia Collins (who plays guitar in the Marie & Rosetta stage show) performed in honour of another 2018 inductee, Sister Rosetta Tharpe. "It's quite unusual to be here without him", Ocasek said in reference to Orr.

Flowers will deliver the induction speech to welcome The Cars into the Hall.

The group then played "I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band, ' 'Wildest Dreams, ' 'Nights in White Satin" and 'Ride My See Saw.' The ceremony will be aired in the USA by HBO on 5 May.
