Kyrie Irving Releases Statement Ahead Of Season-Ending Surgery

Boston Celtics guard Kyrie Irving left sit with teammates Jaylen Brown center and Marcus Smart during the first quarter of the team's NBA basketball game against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Boston Tuesday

The Celtics confirmed Thursday that Irving will miss the rest of the season and playoffs due to another procedure to remove two screws from his patella.

In 60 games with the Celtics this season, Irving averaged 24.4 points, 5.1 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per night. This season was only a snapshot of what's to come from me.

The Celtics said Irving's patella is completely healed and "remains structurally sound".

The Celtics are 53-25 and in second place in the Eastern Conference but have been bothered by injuries all season, starting with Gordon Hayward in Boston's first game in October.

The Boston Celtics will have to try to find a way in the NBA Playoffs without Kyrie IrvingWhat's the story? The team on Thursday put his recovery time at four to five months. Trust Me. "The journey back to the top of Mt. Everest continues".

But now, no matter how deep into the playoffs the Celtics go, they will be without Irving, which will have a significant impact on Boston in the postseason which begins April 14.

In the 2017-18 National Basketball Association season opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Boston Celtics lost Gordon Hayward to a season-ending injury.

Terry Rozier, a second-year guard from Louisville, who has been starting for Irving, will be forced to take on greater responsibility in the playoffs.

Others have stepped up as well.

He's expected to miss 4-5 months. Rookie Jayson Tatum has also hit a midseason stride, scoring in double figures in eight straight games before that streak ended in Wednesday's loss at Toronto.

As the Miami Heat (sixth spot) and Milwaukee Bucks (eighth spot) are only separated by half a game, the Celtics are now scheduled to face the Washington Wizards.
