Suspect named in Hobbs officer-involved shooting from March

State Police Release Update in Hobbs Officer Involved Shooting Investigation

A Cathedral City man is dead after an officer-involved shooting early Sunday morning on Ortega Road and near Wishing Well Trail.

The caller, a 22-year-old woman, said she had gone to her home in the 200 block of Sunset Drive to "escape her attacker", police report. HPD Officer Isidro Urias Mora gave Acosta commands to get out of the vehicle.

Baron was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton before being taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston to be treated for his injuries. He again refused the officers' commands to, this time, show his hands and to exit his vehicle.

Once in the wooded area, police say a Taser was used to apprehend the suspect.

Police said the man pulled out a knife and a metal baton and approached the officer. Officer Mora thought he was about to be run over and fired shots, striking the vehicle.

Police ask that anyone who may have information on this incident to call their investigations division at 630-256-5500 or Crime Stoppers at 630-892-1000.

The officer who fired his weapon had been an officer with the West Valley City Police Department for two years and was assigned to the department's patrol unit.
