Don't ask Siri to define 'mother' in front of your kids

Siri's learned a surprising new word

We tried our hand at the trick by asking Siri to "define mother" and "define the word mother", but this resulted in a long written response without any follow-up questions.

Apple assistant Siri will curse if you ask her for a second definition of the word mother, users began to report in Reddit's Apple community on Saturday.

Users who did so got the response, "as a noun, it means, short for motherf***er". It is said that Siri is getting the definition from Oxford Dictionary.

From telling jokes to giving hilarious responses, it's well-known that Siri has quite the sense of humor. But the "vulgar slang" definition is actually the fourth listed, according to our screenshot, not the second definition.

If they answer in the affirmative, Siri then described how "mother" could also be a noun. As another Reddit user pointed out, Siri tends to shy away from other coarse language (the user said she was a "prude" about other cursing), making this lapse all the more odd. Gadgets Now recently found out that Google's Assistant also shows up the same curse word in results when asked to define "Mother". This is a wide range of statistics, but even at the low end, that's a pretty high number considering the numerous requests that Siri deals with in any one day.

For those unaware, Siri is a built-in "intelligent assistant" that enables users of Apple iPhone 4S and later and newer iPad and iPod Touch devices to speak natural language voice commands in order to operate the mobile device and its apps. While there are some issues in the fact that she chose the fourth secondary definition as the option to provide when prompted to give more information, this seems to be a problem on Oxford's Dictionary rather than Siri herself.
