Nintendo Announces 'Mario Tennis Aces' Pre-Launch Tournament Demo

New Mario Tennis Aces Trailer Shows off Adventure Mode

We're not sure of the exact format of the "tournament" right now, but online play will be available, along with rankings for those participating.

There's a lot to look forward to with this new iteration of the Mario Tennis series, with plenty of new moves and lots of other reasons to come back to the sports franchise, even if you thought you'd seen all it had to offer.

Nintendo announced that Japan is getting a pre-release online tournament for Mario Tennis Aces before its release, and it'll take place at the start of June with a save data bonus for the game.

Mario Tennis Aces will arrive on June 22 at Nintendo Switch. As you advance through the tournament stages you'll earn points based on your performance, allowing you to unlock another five additional characters to play with. Mario steps onto the court in classy tennis garb for intense rallies against a variety of characters in full-blown tennis battles.

More details will be revealed in the future, but a free Mario Tennis Aces demo is coming soon. We see the dark spirit enveloping Luigi and taking him over, transforming him into a kind of evil metallic version of himself.

Mario Tennis Aces launches exclusively on the Nintendo Switch on June 22. If you'd rather turn off all of the fancy chance shots and play a more straightforward game of tennis, you're more than welcome to do that as well, but where's the fun in that?! This costume is Mario's standard look, rather than his funky little polo shirt outfit, and Nintendo has lovingly provided the following image just in case you'd forgotten what that looked like.
