Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has expressed his sadness over the tragic loss of lives from the petrol tanker explosion that happened on Otedola Bridge, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Thursday, June 28, 2018.
According to the FRSC, 54 vehicles also got burnt.
Traffic was stopped on both sides of the road as emergency officials battled to put out the fire and attend to those affected.
A tanker carrying fuel has exploded along the Otedola Bridge end of Berger in Lagos. At least 30 cars have been reportedly destroyed by fire.
He described it as "a sad development and I share the feeling of those who lost their loved ones in this incident".
President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed shock and sorrow over Thursday's fire incident in Lagos where many people are feared killed with several vehicles burnt. Our thoughts and prayers are with them in this time of pain and grief.
"As a government, we would not relent in putting measures in place to ensure safety of lives and property of all residents", said Lagos state government spokesman Kehinde Bamigbetan in an emailed statement. Four injured were in hospital, emergency authorities said. It led to serious traffic snarl in and out of the state.
