Serena Williams says she is "an honorary Armenian"

Williams wore what was described by her as a "cat suit" - a black outfit with a red belt.

In a tweet, the three-time French Open victor opened up about her "superhero outfit", writing, "For all the moms out there who had a tough recovery from pregnancy - here you go".

Showing off her fine figure after returning from pregnancy, Super Serena lived up to her nickname.

She made no mistake either as Williams put a forehand long to allow Barty to break to love and move 4-2 in front.

In addition to being a symbol of confidence and empowerment, the suit also reminds Williams of Black Panther.

"The name Williams has incredible status in tennis and rightfully so", Gorges said. I always wanted to be a superhero, and it's kind of my way of being a superhero. I'm always living in a fantasy world.

After managing to win in three sets, Serena will now face German Julia Georges in the third round following her victory against Alison van Uytvanck.

"I lost the first set and I thought "I've got to try harder", she said.

Serena Williams is back in action - and winning matches her sister, Venus.

"I am so happy to be back here".

Williams is ranked only 451st this week, because of her extended absence from the tour.

The "warrior princess" inside Serena Williams came out in full fighting mode at the French Open on Thursday as the American proved she was no pushover when it came to making an impact in a Grand Slam arena. "It's because I want to get home to see Olympia, because I have been here all day".

Not bad for someone who hasn't played in one of tennis' four most important events since January 2017, when she won the Australian Open while pregnant.

The 36-year-old showed no nerves to clinch it 6-4 and demonstrate that while she may not be at her very best she will still be tough to beat in Paris.

Yet that did not seem to affect Barty as she deservedly took the first set 6-3. "No matter what, that's my priority", Williams said after her 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 win over Pliskova. "But her level when she's not quite on her best is still bloody good".
