Sister of Dutch Queen Maxima found dead in Argentina

Inés Zorreguieta, the youngest sister of Dutch Queen Maxima, has been found dead at her home in Argentina in an apparent suicide, the Dutch government said on Thursday.

Buenos Aires-born Maxima had a close relationship with her youngest sister, who was bridesmaid at her wedding to then Crown Prince Willem-Alexander in 2002. Zorreguieta worked as a civil servant in Buenos Aires and was a guitarist.

Zorreguieta appears to have committed suicide, the Dutch embassy in Argentina told Euronews in an email.

Tributes were paid to the "very attractive and talented" Zorreguieta on a video her brother Martin posted of her singing and playing the guitar past year. Zorreguieta was the godmother to the queen's youngest daughter, Princess Ariane. "It is intensely sad and heartbreaking news that can hardly be comprehended for those who stay behind", Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said. "I wish them all the strength necessary to carry this awful loss together and I trust that they will get the peace and space for that".

Zorreguieta was a psychologist who once worked for an office on social policies at the president's office. "And I trust that they will get the peace and space for that".

Zorreguieta died late on Wednesday, aged 33, a palace spokeswoman announced earlier. She canceled her upcoming engagements including a state visit to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
