United States child migrants: Melania calls for end to Trump's separation policy

Senator Elizabeth Warren

During the interview Bannon defended the Trump administration's "zero-tolerance" immigration policy, which has included separating undocumented migrant parents from their children if they caught while crossing the border into the United States.

The U.S. separated about 1,995 children from their parents and detained them between mid-April and May 31, according to the Office of Refugee Resettlement at the Department of Health and Human Services, which is responsible for their care. USA protocol prohibits detaining children with their parents because the children are not charged with a crime and the parents are. "We have a crisis on the southern border".

President Donald Trump repeated a false claim in a tweet Saturday that blames Democrats for the policy of separating immigrant parents from their children upon crossing the southern border between the United States and Mexico.

Collins took several days to study the issue before announcing her position Sunday morning on the separation policy that has been widely criticized in the past weeks by church groups, politicians and children's advocates.

"This is inhumane. I'd like to say it's un-American, but it's happening right now in America", O'Rourke added.

Though the policy has been enacted and touted by his own administration, Trump has avoided publicly owning it and, instead, blamed Democrats for "forcing the breakup of families at the Border with their disgusting and cruel legislative agenda".

The moves by the government to separate families have been widely decried by medical professionals, the United Nations, and a wide swath of USA religious leaders. The families were then sent to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) processing center for possible separation.

The push toward immigration votes in the House is intensifying the divide among Republicans on one of the party's most animating issues and fueling concerns that a voter backlash could cost the GOP control of the House in November. "I would cite you to the Apostle Paul and his clear and wise command to obey the laws of the government because God has ordained them for the goal of order".

On Wednesday, the president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops denounced family separation and the end of asylum opportunities for gang violence and domestic violence survivors.

Top White House adviser Kellyanne Conway said "nobody likes" separating children from their parents and pushed back on claims the Trump administration is using the kids as a bargaining chip to get Democrats on board with increased border security.

"Wow. Just wow. Sessions uses the same bible passage that was used to justify slavery to try to defend his "zero-tolerance" policy of ripping children away from their mothers".

The immigration hard-liner was identified by the Times in May as being part of a "zero tolerance" sect of White House aides who have been intentionally "cruel".

"We have laws about asylum, people can come to this country and they can request asylum if they're fleeing violence in their home country, and the price of trying to save yourself and the lives of your family should not be the separation of your family", King told Portland-based CBS affiliate WGME on Friday.

In an election year in which Democrats appear to have an advantage on voter enthusiasm, Republicans can ill afford to alienate any voters this fall, particularly their most passionate supporters.
