Even ICE Agents Want ICE Abolished

Alexandria Ocasio Cortez celebrated Tuesday after beating longtime Bronx Rep. Joseph Crowley in a primary election seen as a challenge to the Democratic Party leadership

"Donald Trump has turned ICE into a police and child separation agency - not a border enforcement agency that treats people humanely and compassionately", Gillum said.

"To the great and courageous men and women of ICE, do not worry or lose your spirit".

Congressman Beto O'Rourke, the Democratic candidate challenging U.S. Sen.

ICE may not be be to blame for separating families at United States borders, but the agency has always been dogged with claims of abuse. Nixion also from NY echoed those statements.

Mr. Guadian provided details hours before a key hearing where the government will defend its slow progress in reuniting almost 3,000 children who may have been separated from their parents in the wake of President Trump's zero tolerance policy.

Ice was created in 2003 when the Bush administration reorganized a number of federal agencies in response to the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks, and placed them under the brand new Department of Homeland Security. In an act of civil disobedience, some protesters tried to shut down an ICE office on Main Street for the day by blocking the entrance. Senator Kamala Harris is also in favor of "critically re-examining" the agency. The debate over the agency's future follows the widespread outcry in recent weeks after the Trump administration separated more than 2,000 migrant children from their parents, a decision that which he has since reversed.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., said she would "love" to see ICE vanish. Joe Manchin is seeking re-election.

"A vote for the Democrats in November is a vote to let (the Latino gang) MS-13 run wild in our communities, to let drugs pour into our cities, and to take jobs and benefits away from our hard-working Americans", he said.

Kenney had enjoyed darling status with progressive groups who supported his sanctuary city policy, which rejects requests from ICE to put "detainer" holds on inmates being released from city jails if they are in the country illegally. On Monday morning, they moved to the corner of Woodlawn and Central after being told that they had to leave the parking lot of 555 N. Woodlawn, which is private property rented by the government, or face possible arrest.

Trump raised the idea of tossing immigrants without giving them a chance to appear before a judge in a tweet last month, referring to them as invading the country and suggesting they be sent back "immediately, with no Judges or Court Cases".

"We protect ICE, they protect us and we protect them", he said at a rally in Montana. And that's a problem, many say. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York and Elizabeth Warren of MA and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who are among a large field of potential 2020 challengers to Trump. Sixty-nine percent of those surveyed said ICE should not be abolished, while 31 percent said it should.

Pressed by activists on the left enraged by the administration's child separation policy, which Trump announced he was stopping after fierce public criticism, some Democrats including presidential contenders have called for abolishing ICE and reconstituting the agency.
