Ibrahimovic believes Sweden can beat England

FIFA sanctions Swedish FA for breach of media, marketing rules

Sweden are attempting to reach a first semi-final since 1994, when they were beaten 1-0 in the last four by eventual champions Brazil.

"Something about 99 times out of 100 they would beat us". The only European countries larger than Sweden are France, Spain, Ukraine and Russian Federation.

"Sweden are so good defensively, their block of eight with four at the back and four midfielders has been so solid, so I think they are a little bit anxious but it's going to be a tight game".

After winning the 1974 Eurovision with Waterloo, Swedish band ABBA would go on to become one of the most successful pop groups of all time, with nine United Kingdom number ones and 19 top 10 hits.

"We're really strong in our beliefs and we really have been from the outset".

Ibrahmovic is so confident Sweden will defeat England he has put his money where his mouth is.

"We're a completely different squad and so are they, so anything that went before is not relevant", he said.

Ibrahimovic scored 62 goals in 116 games for his country and a debate raged about whether or not Janne Andersson should bring him back into the squad for Russian Federation, but they seem to be doing well enough without him.

'But, as a team, the way they work together, they are one of the best.

"He's incredibly skilled, not just at penalties but as a striker. We've proven to other people and to ourselves that when we're at the right level we can make it very hard for teams, and we're not going to try to do anything else against England", midfielder Sebastian Larsson told reporters.

"Now the press are saying it's the best World Cup ever".

"Football isn't that simple".

"They should continue doing what they´re doing", Ibrahimovic said.

"Many things must be right to beat a team like England".

Seven of England's nine goals in the tournament have come from dead-ball situations, a statistic not lost on Andersson.

"He's risky on set-pieces and in the box he is incredible".

"The set piece situation will be a clear factor - for the first time I think we are coming up against a country that is more or less on par with us in that respect", warned Andersson.

"It's a holistic approach".
