Thibaut Courtois mocks Jordan Pickford after Belgium beat England
Jul 04 2018
While Pickford is now England's number one goalkeeper after a season in the Premier League with Everton following a move from Sunderland, it did not stop Thibaut Courtois mocking him when asked by Belgian website Voetball24.
England striker Harry Kane has been named the Budweiser Man of Tuesday's round of 16 clash between England and Colombia at the ongoing 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russian Federation. Pickford was the hero of the game for England after he saved a shot from Bacca in the shoot-out and ensured England progressed to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
But in the third minute of stoppage time, Colombia defender Yerry Mina headed home to take the game into extra time and then to penalties.
At 6ft 5in, Courtois is one of the most imposing goalkeepers on the worldwide scene and is the joint-third tallest out of 736 players competing at the World Cup this summer.
England had looked bereft when Colombia drew level in the dying seconds of a match that had long since escaped the control of the referee.
"See you at Goodison soon!" The moment England's Eric Dier's scored a goal, the players rejoiced the victory. "We know obviously in the past England haven't done great and it was great to get that one off our back".
It wasn't plain sailing for England but they made it through to the final eight on penalties.
"The fans that were here were outnumbered but I'm delighted for them, and everyone at home".
As they chanted "don't take me home" and other terrace classics one fearless photographer, regular contributor Fraser Gray, got in among the action and filmed the extraordinary scenes. We've shown incredible resilience to come back from huge disappointment at the final whistle.
"I think England will at least make the semi-final this year and it's going to be fantastic".
