Hareide said there are no plans to nullify Real Madrid's Modric, arguably the best midfield player of the tournament to date.

In-form Croatia take on unbeaten Denmark at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium on Sunday night with a place in the World Cup quarter-finals at stake.

Denmark head coach Hareide told Fifa.com: "Christian has played a fantastic qualification campaign".

- Denmark's knockout stage matches in the World Cup have produced 4.75 goals per game (19 goals in 4 matches).

The Tottenham playmakers past and present hold down important roles for their national sides, with Modric outstanding for Croatia so far at Russian Federation 2018 and Eriksen Denmark's main attacking threat. Eriksen however, remains their only realy player possible of creating the magic needed to put the ball in the back of the net.

Marcelo Brozovic can provide stability at the base of midfield, Ivan Perisic is risky on the flank and Hoffenheim's Andrej Kramaric is an effective playmaker.

'He's a wonderful player but they have other skilful players and we need to handle him collectively, ' he added.

The Danes have scored just two goals so far in Russian Federation but Hareide says they will adopt a more attacking approach in Nizhny Novgorod.

"It is a stern test for us, but it is high time that this generation hurdles this obstacle which we haven't hurdled since 1998".

For Denmark, the creative spark will come from Christian Eriksen, who is allowed pretty much a free role in midfield.

"I don't like to compare players, particularly to myself", Modric said when asked about the duel. The Tottenham star only scored once in the group stage (Denmark only scored twice, with Eriksen assisting on the other goal), but he is capable of a difference-making moment that requires the opposition to remain on its toes.

"What will decide the game will be how the teams perform as teams". "We know our qualities and strengths. We have a good opponent in the next round, it will be hard". I don't think we're a nice team to meet.
