Sonic is a cool hedgehog with plenty of attitude. There's Dewy from the new Duck Tales, who is blue. However, it's worth pointing out that Schwartz has an extensive history with voice acting, having done work for critically-acclaimed animated shows like Bob's Burgers, BoJack Horseman, the DuckTales reboot, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and more. It was confirmed that Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation, House of Lies) will provide the voice for the title character. That's quite the collection of blue cartoon characters Schwartz has. The news comes after the confirmation that Jim Carrey will indeed portray a live-action Dr. Eggman in the same film. Whether or not it lives up to the hype remains to be seen, but it's nice to see that Schwartz seems genuinely confident about the project. "Mixed with desperation." So perhaps we'll be getting Carrey under a lot of prosthetic make-up as he's done before in How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events.
Sonic the Hedgehog is scheduled to start filming this year, with a planned release date of November 15, 2019.
Jeff Fowler (2005's Oscar-nominated Gopher Broke short) is directing Sonic the Hedgehog, with Neal H. Moritz producing and Deadpool director Tim Miller serving as executive producer with Toby Ascher.
