For Google, the Android 9 Pie is a major update, even though it doesn't come with significant changes in terms of the user interface. Best of all, if you don't want to wait for the update to reach your phone via an over-the-air update, you can download the factory images from Google right now.

Google has been testing Android P since early this year, and it just released the final developer preview a few weeks ago. Android Pie is now rolling out to Pixel devices, plus the Essential Phone. Google's Android P was available in beta for the last four odd months, but the Android 9 Pie is the version ready for masses and it will be rolling out to compatible phones from tonight.

Google has also baked several AI features into Android Pie. The source can not verify that Google shared the aforementioned date, in other words, created the ad in question, but it's highly likely that the two phones will drop on October 4. The Material Design approach isn't new to Google or Android, but the new theme adds white space and rounded corners.

Devices that participated in the Beta program from Sony Mobile, Xiaomi, HMD Global, Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, and Essential, as well as all qualifying Android One devices, will receive this update by the end of this fall! Android 9 also brings important privacy improvements, such as TLS by default and DNS over TLS to help protect all web communications and keep them private.

It's not on board the Galaxy S8/Galaxy Note 8/Galaxy S7 Android Oreo updates (at least not yet), but Google's Project Treble, one of Oreo's key ingredients, is on board the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. A swipe to the left or right on the new single button will quickly switch between apps.

Personalised settings include the new Adaptive Battery and Adaptive Brightness modes. The digital wellness features are all still in beta, and won't be included when you get the update. And then there's App Actions, which will try to predict what you're going to do with your phone next.

"Say it's Tuesday morning and you're preparing for your commute: you'll be suggested actions like navigating to work on Google Maps or resuming an audiobook with Google Play Books", the company said.
